Yes Mam

Today, I was out and about, as I always am on Saturdays. For the first time, someone referred to me as "yes, mam" and I know it is social ediquette, showing me respect and all, but why did it make me feel so OLD? I remember being told as a youngster that you respect your elders with that expression, and with my southern roots the titles were important "uncles, aunts, etc..." so I have come very well acquainted with these terms. However, when a young woman addressed me as such today...it felt really kinda odd.
